Jewel-Toned Smoky Eyes
In shades of pinks, purples and plums, or gold, bronze and amethyst, seriously winged jewel-tone eyes are everywhere. This look is super flattering thanks to the ‘two-thirds’ rule, where the darker shadow starts about a third of the way into your eye creating a widening effect and a universally flattering almond shape.
Of course, the right technique is the most important thing about the smoky eye—you do not want to look like an ultimate fighter.
Strobing is a hot, worldwide fashion trend that is all about brightening the face without dark shades to contour. To create an illuminated complexion, apply a crème blush stick or a candle glow crème directly to the high points of your face—the tops of the cheekbones, the temples, center of the nose and on the cupid’s bow—where the light naturally hits.
The Jade Roller
With origins in 17th Century China, the Jade Roller may not exactly be a “new trend,” but it is currently experiencing a boost in popularity in the U.S.
To use it, apply gentle pressure while rolling the tool from the center of your face in upward and outward motions.
This year’s natural looking crème blush trend works just as well for no-makeup office days as it does on the red carpet. A vibrant shade will create that avant-garde flush, or to keep it on the softer side, use a super-sheer formulation for the desired healthy glow. These crème blushes do double, even triple duty on your cheeks, eyes and lips for an all-in-one easy does it makeup routine.
Instantly pep up your complexion with bold shades of red, plum and burgundy that perfectly suit you. The latest fashion shows from across the globe feature brilliant lips for the modern woman who isn’t afraid of making a statement with her beauty. Just remember to choose a shade with a blue undertone if you have cool skin, or an orange undertone if you have warm skin.
How to Apply A Perfect Bold Lip That Lasts All Day
Here are some tips to ensure your power lipstick lasts all day!
- Prep your lips like a pro! This means using a lip exfoliator to remove any dead, flaky skin from your lips, leaving your pretty pout smooth and clear.
- Next, apply a hydrating lip balm. Use something containing bees wax, not oil, as anything slippery will cause your lip color to slide right off your lips.
- Pat a little foundation on your lips as a base, to enhance your lipstick’s true color.
- Line OUTSIDE the lip line with a flesh tone pencil and blend. This adds fullness, camouflages those small lines around your lips, and keeps your lipstick from feathering.
- Follow this by applying a liner color on the actual lip line. Fill in your entire lips with the same liner color to create a base color for your lipstick.
- Apply your lip color in sections. Start with the bow, then fill the bottom pout. Use a lip brush for a precise application.
- Take a tissue and separate the layers. Use one layer to place on lips and then gently dust on some translucent powder. This will set your lipstick, keeping it in place all day.
- Apply a final layer of lipstick and you’re ready to go!
TIP: There is no such thing as a lip gloss that lasts all day. If you want a glossy look, you will have to reapply throughout the day. Or place a dab in the center of the lip and not all over.
Matte lipstick formulas will last longer but can be drying, so don’t skip the prep!
Using lip liner will always make your color last longer. Make sure you fill in the lip entirely!
Use a lip brush for a more precise application. Saturate the brush with product and use the edge of your brush, so you have more control along the border of the lip.
SKIN, WELLNESS & SELF-CARE
The first step in your self-care ritual is developing an approach to wellness, beauty and skin care that keeps you looking well outside, as well as feeling good inside. Your skin absorbs nutrients just as your internal organs do; glowing skin requires choosing the right products for your skin, and forming daily habits, to ensure a great complexion. Here are some useful tips to help you toward radiant, beautiful skin!
Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize Your Skin
Throughout the day, dirt and bacteria seep into your pores; one very simple ‘golden rule’ is to always remove your makeup before you sleep. Cleanse, tone and moisturize every night before bed! This allows your pores to breathe. Your skin constantly regenerates, so by incorporating this skincare wellness routine into your everyday life, you can normally see changes and create lovelier looking skin in around 4 weeks!
Skin Care Based Upon Your Skin Type
Use products that match your skin type—which may be oily, dry, normal or combination, or sensitive. I recommend products that contain anti-oxidants, that are easily absorbed topically, that contain what your particular skin type needs to keep it looking firmer and more youthful.
Make Time for Yourself
Self-care, self-optimization, me-time…however you phrase it, taking time to focus on yourself is one of the most important ways we find balance. The key here is to really indulge in an at-home pampering session. Make the time for yourself and do it right!
Set aside a Certain amount of time each week for what I like to call “The Stress-Relieving Beauty Bath.” This is when I take time for myself to rejuvenate and maintain. I like to get in a hot bath with a new magazine, and do my at-home facial, which includes a moisture steam and deep cleanse, a
facial scrub and a masque. I also shave or tweeze any stray facial hairs that need tending to. To end my tub time, I do an all-over body scrub, and rinse off in the shower, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, and ready to face the new week ahead.
