Grove St. of downtown Loudon is the home of the Historic Lyric Theatre. The theatre was first built in the early 1900s and since has been a local hot spot for entertainment.
The theatre started off showing silent western films but burnt down in 1935 and then again in 1941; it did not reopen until the mid-1950s and ran until its last film showing in 1961. During the 1980s, the Lyric Theatre was donated to the city of Loudon. Since then, the Loudon Merchants and Property Owners Association (LMPOA) have worked to restore the theatre to its former glory. They took the four brick walls and created what we see today…a renovated stage, marquee, and full facilities.
Recently, the city of Loudon awarded the theatre a $75,000 grant as part of their tourism enrichment goal. The Historic Lyric Theatre of Loudon is the home of plays, music concerts, banquets, and other events.
